ENGINEERING PROJECT LEADER

SOUTHFIELD, MICHIGAN – LEAR EAST CAMPUS/WORLD HEADQUARTERS

As a member of the Electrification Engineering team, the Engineering Project Leader (EPL) will be responsible for leading the cross functional engineering activities, customer technical communication and responsible to execute the project on time, budget, and quality. The EPL manages the engineering project plan execution, ensuring that the engineering team follows established technical processes, manages engineering risks, costed BOM and project ED&T spend target.

The Role:

Your work will include, but not be limited to:

  • Lead and facilitate design cross functional team: Software, Systems, Hardware, Mechanical, Laboratory, Cyber Security, and Functional Safety, to assure execution, timing and deliverables.
  • Manage engineering risks (technical issues, timing risk, staffing, etc) that could affect project milestones. Escalate to Program Manager and Engineering leadership appropriately and purposefully.
  • Serve as customer engineering point of interface for the project team.
  • Lead Change Management Control, coordinating design windows, change approvals, and validation / introduction plans.
  • Ensure that all technical project deliverables are executed in accordance with Lear and Customer procedures, policies, best practices, and requirements.
  • Control and Manage engineering lifetime work orders (budget) forecast and actual spend control (resources, expenses and CAPEX) assuring no overspending and escalating financial Risks / opportunities.
  • Lead VAVE and Design-to-Cost activities to deliver BOM cost at or beyond business case commitments.

The Hour by Hour Task Breakdown with percentages:

  • Technical project team leadership (60%)
  • Customer interface (30%)
  • Engineering budget/financial management (10%)

Your Qualifications:

  • Proven experience managing complex automotive electronic module development with cross functional engineering teams.
  • Experience in managing teams in technical problem solving.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience interfacing with customers.
  • Experience managing project engineering budgets and matrix project resources.
  • Degree in Electrical/Electronics/Mechanical Engineering

  •  MBA, Project Management certifications (PMP, Agile)
