Sr Business Analyst – IT Tax

This position is responsible for supporting the Indirect Tax team to make sure they have the right data and tools for the team’s tax return preparation, data analysis and reconciliations. It is imperative to provide accurate data on a timely manner and troubleshoot data issues. To do well in this role, you need attention to detail, experience in Data Analysis, strong problem-solving skills and great interpersonal skills to allow collaboration amongst different teams. Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Lists duties and responsibilities in rank of importance or time spent doing each job duty. Must constitute at least 5% of an incumbent’s time.
  • Maintains/enhances tax pre-compliance data manipulation and loading into tax filing software;
  • Develop/Maintain SQL-based queries and content to address ad-hoc and on-going business information requests and issue resolution;
  • Supports documentation and enhancement of existing Indirect Tax processes and improve internal efficiencies;
  • Examine and evaluate the purpose and content of tax reports to develop new, or improve existing report content and completeness;
  • Develop and maintain current knowledge and understanding of tax applications;
  • Identifies requirements to provide technical support on existing code & configurations;
  • Proactively gain product knowledge and update tax users with available of new functionality;
  • Contact internal and external business, software and technical resources for reporting and follow-up resolution of related issues and opportunities;
  • Maintain user roles and profiles, security settings, access settings, for all Indirect Tax software in accordance with company policy;
  • Coordinate and work closely with users and designated external resources to further business objectives and troubleshooting;
  • Work with various IT teams – IGEN Team, SAP team, RightAngle Team, DBA team, Server team etc. and coordinate all application support and maintenance activities; and
  • Lead or participate in special projects as needed.


Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Computer Information Systems or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in Accounting or IT that includes experience with Business Intelligence tools (IGEN, Alteryx, SAP, SQL Server Management Studio, Microsoft Power BI, etc.) including design and development of reports and analytical objects
  • Proficiency in Data wrangling (Cleaning and manipulation of data) in order to create meaningful reports and automation;
  • Must be a quick learner with the ability to adjust to multiple demands and address shifting priorities
  • Strong understanding of data warehouse and ETL concepts Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required because of interactions both inside and outside of the tax department
  • Ability to think independently, challenge existing norms, and work collaboratively for the benefits of the tax team with minimal direction;
  • Strong communication skills for Technical and Business terms across different teams to facilitate mutual understanding;
  • Ability to build effective relationships with a wide range of people;
  • Proven skills to analyze business and user needs, document requirements, outline & develop processes, implement solutions and testing;
  • Possess the ability to analyze current IT Tax structure/process and provide input as to how to improve current IT tax processes;
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills in researching and solving technical problems related to ERP systems.
  • Comfortable working with business requirements gathering, implementation and training; and
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Required Experience Is Commensurate With The Selected Job Level

  • The Sr Specialist/Analyst level requires a Bachelor’s degree and 5 – 8 years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Tax Software solutions (Like IGEN, Avalara/Zytax, Vertex, and/or OneSource/Sabrix) required
  • Experience with Data Analytics tools (Alteryx, Power BI, etc.)
  • Experience with SQL Server Database, SQL and Stored Procedures
  • Knowledge of RightAngle preferred
  • Knowledge of VBA programming desired

Working Conditions

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Usually, normal office working conditions.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required.
  • Occasional visits to industrial/manufacturing settings, which may include exposure to various materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment.
