Position Summary:

The Principal Cloud Architect is responsible for leading the creation of a technology framework and providing technical leadership in support of Healthcare Technology & Analytics Solutions (HTAS) initiatives in cloud computing and automation, with a focus on modernizing healthcare applications by designing systems and services that run on cloud platforms. The Principal Cloud Architect reports to the Senior Director of Infrastructure & Cloud Architecture and works closely with the CloudOps, DevSecOps, and Security teams to provide architectural leadership and best practices. Additionally, the Principal Cloud Architect will be responsible for ensuring that critical applications are designed and optimized for high availability and security.

The successful candidate can be based remotely anywhere in the Continental United States, provided that s/he will be accessible and available during Eastern time zone working hours.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

The ideal candidate will have a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Business, or a closely related field; an advanced degree is preferred. 10 or more years of experience in designing large and complex IT operations in large organizations, and healthcare experience, is preferred. This position requires a strong executive presence, leadership, and team-building skills, and must be able to collaborate effectively with a group of high-performing individuals.

Cloud Architecture Design and Development (50%)

  • Demonstrate knowledge of cloud architecture and implementation features (OS, multi-tenancy, virtualization, containers, orchestration, elastic scalability in Azure AND AWS).
  • Demonstrate knowledge of DevSecOps toolchains and processes.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert to the organization for HTAS cloud end-to-end architecture, including AWS/Azure and future providers, networking, provisioning, and management.
  • Develop a library of deployable and documented cloud design patterns, based on the HTAS application portfolio, as a basis for deploying services to the cloud.
  • Demonstrate leadership ability to back decisions with research and the “why,” and articulate several options, the pros and cons for each, and a recommendation.
  • Maintain overall industry knowledge of the latest trends and relevant technologies.
  • Develop solutions architecture and evaluate architectural alternatives for private, public, and hybrid cloud models, including IaaS, PaaS, and other cloud services.
  • Contribute to DevOps development activities and complex development tasks.
  • Define optimal design patterns and solutions for high availability and disaster recovery for applications.

Consultation

  • Drive scope definition, requirements analysis, functional and technical design, application build, product configuration, unit testing, and production deployment.
  • Ensure delivered solutions meet/perform to technical and functional/non-functional requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise and ownership in the diagnosis and resolution of an issue, including the determination and provision of workaround solutions or escalation to service owners.
  • Ensure delivered solutions are realized in the time frame committed; work in conjunction with project sponsors to size and manage scope and risk.
  • Provide support and technical governance, expertise related to cloud architectures, deployment, and operations.

Thought Leadership

  • Provide thought leadership in industry and to fellow team members across business and technical project dimensions solving complex business requirements.
  • Demonstrate forward-thinking around where the organization is going and how technology can support these efforts.
  • Advocate and define cloud architecture vision from a strategic perspective, including internal and external platforms, tools, and systems.

Mentoring

  • Act as the coach and mentor to team members and technical staff on their assigned project tasks
  • be collaborative in a cohesive team and ensure their continued success.
  • Lead the definition and development of cloud reference architecture and management systems
  • Conduct product work reviews with team members.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related fields.
  • 10 years of relevant architecture experience. Expert knowledge and understanding of Cloud architecture, application systems designs, and integration.
  • Perform job duties with frequent interruptions or distractions.
  • Adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate.
  • Ability to interact professionally with colleagues and/or customers for different purposes in different contexts.
  • Maintain composure under pressure.
  • Performs a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another.
