JOB SUMMARY:
Clemson University’s Network Services Team is looking for a Network Engineer to fulfill the following duties:
- Design and implementation of detailed network architecture configurations to support University Research Initiatives.
- This position is primarily for supporting Controlled Unclassified Information high performance computing network environments.
- This position requires applying NIST 800-171 controls, and applying and maintaining controls to covered information systems.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB DUTIES:
35% – Essential – Network Systems Administration:
Participates in planning, designing, installing and configuring research network systems. Collaborate with peers to review design proposals and implementation plans. Analyze complex network technology needs and system requirements to determine feasibility of design, technical specifications, and test plans within time and cost constraints.
20% – Essential – Compliance & Risk Management:
Apply NIST 800-171 assessment objectives as appropriate to the covered information system. Conduct monthly risk and compliance reviews of covered information system to ensure adherence to regulated research policies and security practices. Track and document compliance status, identifying and mitigating non-compliance risks as they arise. Support and enforce change management processes, ensuring that all modifications to covered information system hardware, software, configurations, and encryptions align with NIST 800-171 assessment objectives, and that all changes are requested, authorized, and documented. Track and manage hardware, software and firmware assets, ensuring they are inventoried and managed according to NIST 800-171 assessment objectives. Verify that all assets have proper security controls in place and are regularly updated and reviewed. Assist in the identification of security incidents. Contribute to incident handling, tracking, response, and documentation.
20% – Essential – Performance Monitoring:
Analyzes network efficiency by conducting network tests and running diagnostics in order to forecast performance thresholds. Diagnoses and resolves network problems and ensures network environments are secure and appropriate recovery and redundancy issues are addressed. Monitors performance of networks to identify potential problems and bottlenecks.
20% – Essential – Debugging:
Debugs complex network configuration, hardware failures, and external and internal network faults. Diagnoses and resolves network problems in conjunction with other engineers, support personnel, system administrators and other vendors in a large and complex environment. Troubleshoot system issues and interface with vendor support when needed. Provides on-call support.
5% – Essential – Professional Development:
Attend training and professional development related to job duties.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education – Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Related Field
Work Experience – Experience in computer system development and modification. Relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Preferred Education – Bachelor’s degree in information technology systems, computer science, or related field.
Preferred Work Experience – Experience in information technology systems or related area. 4+ years Experience with Cisco, Juniper, F5, Palo Alto networking equipment. 4+ Years experience in networking.
Certifications – Cisco or Juniper Certifications (CCNA, JNCIA, etc.)
Licenses – Drivers License Class D normal < 26,000

Compensation Information
Expected Salary Range: ($ 68,397.00 – $ 126,547.00)
Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate’s previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson’s compensation guidelines.

Essential Level 2 employee
Required to maintain/resume essential support functions, deliver direct care services, and/or provide recovery support before normal operations resume. Some positions in this category may be required to work remotely or be on-call.
