The CSU Chancellor’s Office, located on the waterfront adjacent to the Aquarium of the Pacific in downtown Long Beach, is the headquarters for the nation’s largest and most diverse system of higher education. Salary

The salary range for this classification is $4,678 to $11,547 per month. The anticipated salary hiring range is up to $9,895 per month, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Operating Systems Analyst

Position Information

The California State University, Office of the Chancellor, is seeking a Data Center Systems Analyst to provide administration, maintenance, and operating systems support in a multi-site 24/7/365 data center and cloud services environment, including installation, setup, monitoring, configuration testing, development, security, and troubleshooting of operating systems, enterprise applications, virtualization technologies, backup, and automation tools.

Responsibilities

The Data Center Systems Analyst is primarily responsible for providing administrative, and operating system support focused on Unix and Linux servers, Cloud services, and cross-platform technologies.

Duties include:

– Maintain Unix/Linux server-based applications in a multi-site 24/7/365 environment.

-Setup, configure, maintain, troubleshoot, and automate systems deployment within on-premises data centers and cloud-hosted environments such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, and other similar provider environments.

-Develop, implement, document, and maintain a standard operating environment (SOE) for all servers, including baseline operating system images, templates, and maintenance of required support tools and applications.

-Develop scripts, packages, and other tools to optimize administration, monitoring, and system deployment.

-Provide support for Backup Systems, including implementation, maintenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting.

-Assist with the administration and support of Windows Servers, Active Directory, Active Directory Integration, and other Windows Enterprise Server-based applications, including Office 365 applications and administrative services.

-Gather business requirements, architect, document, and implement IT solutions and meet operational needs.

-Plan and execute lifecycle of core services, operating systems, and supporting hardware upgrades.

-Perform routine system administration functions such as patch deployment, user account management, and security.

-Meet or exceed customer Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

-Provide 24×7 operational support, after-hours on-call, and maintenance support for all systems.

-Develop and maintain Linux and Windows run books.

-Provide advanced-level troubleshooting and interface with customers to resolve problems.

-Monitor systems for failure and respond to resolve impacts, and determine the root cause.

-Maintain systems security and ensure compliance with system-wide and Chancellor’s Office policies.

-Maintain the integrity and reliability of systems.

-Develop detailed hardware plans, systems operation & technical procedure guidelines.

-Adhere to the Chancellor’s Office security policies and guidelines in the daily performance of systems administration activities.

-Research and provide cost analysis for technology solutions.

-Consult with and train technical staff as needed.

-Participate in the evaluation of technologies and in developing processes to implement a uniform and consistent methodology of maintaining system and application security.

-Implement, maintain, and support datacenter hardware, including servers, blade chassis, and storage systems.

-Implement, maintain, and support virtualization platforms.

-Gather business requirements, architect, document, and implement IT solutions to meet operational needs.

-Recommend and establish policies and procedures to meet operational requirements of key services.

-Provide support to desktop and user-support teams to resolve systems and server-related issues.

This position is also responsible for any other duties as assigned. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for keeping current in the industry, including technology changes, trends, and best practices. The incumbent is also responsible for addressing any concerns regarding technical operations with the appropriate supervisor. This position also provides on-site support as operational needs require and coverage for “after-hours” on-call support.

Qualifications

-Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field or equivalent combination of education and work related experience.

-Seven to ten years of professional experience supporting a production Unix/Linux environment.

Technical Skills

-Extensive experience administering Unix and Linux operating systems.

-Knowledge of Windows systems and related hardware.

-Experience working in a heterogeneous Windows/Unix/Linux environment is preferred.

-Experience installing, configuring, and managing IIS and Apache web servers and web applications preferred.

-Concrete understanding of Windows and Unix security, including file system permissions, file sharing, and event logging.

-Experience with cloud-hosted environments such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, and other similar provider environments is required.

-Experience with VMWare ESXi and vSphere Virtual Infrastructure is required.

-Experience with Storage Area Networks (SAN) and Network-attached storage (NAS) technologies and Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) is preferred.

-Thorough understanding of enterprise backup technologies implementation is required.

-Proficiency with Internet and Windows protocols and standards, including TCP/IP, ICMP, DNS, SMTP, SNMP, SSH, DHCP, IMAP, POP3, MAPI, WINS, CIFS, and any emerging protocols and technologies.

-An in-depth understanding of LAN/WAN technologies, including switching, routing, and Internetwork Operating System is required.

-Experience with Cisco or Alcatel-Lucent networking equipment is preferred.

-Proficiency in Microsoft Office Productivity Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), Microsoft Project, and Visio required.
