This role is located in our modern Nashville Metro Center office, located just minutes from downtown with easy interstate access and free parking.

Primary Function

The Senior Systems Engineer will be responsible for the design, support, maintenance, configuration, backup, and reliable operation of the A. O. Smith server, cloud, and storage environment while also actively working on projects to enhance the security and supportability of the server, storage, or cloud environments. The Sr. Systems Engineer will also work proactively to secure the environment, highlight potential problems, and devise processes and procedures to prevent downtime.

This role is eligible for a remote work schedule of up to two days remote work per week. New employees are eligible to apply after successfully completing their initial 90 days of employment and training.

Scope of Responsibility

• Assess our virtual, storage, and cloud environments. Make recommendations to improve security, reliability, and performance.
• Develop, implement, provision, and troubleshoot storage and virtualization infrastructure
• Plan and manage storage and virtualization infrastructure projects.
• Support, Maintain, troubleshoot, and secure our virtual, storage and cloud infrastructure
• Work with business and IT teams to build and support solutions that are secure, scalable, reusable, and quick to market
• Work with internal security to continually enhance and improve our security posture
• Perform complex storage and server data backup, data migration and disaster recovery operations
• Provide technical guidance, assistance and mentorship to other System Engineers and System Administrators

Role Specific Responsibilities

• Support A.O. Smith servers and storage and perform advanced troubleshooting of software and hardware
• Expert-level knowledge of VMWare products
• Expertise managing SAN solutions
• Experience with EMC RecoverPoint
• Serve as an escalation point for resolving service impacting issues.
• Support and monitor the enterprise environment, resolve issues, and identify improvement opportunities
• Perform proactive system monitoring
• Design and develop PowerShell scripts to automate management tasks
• Develop and maintain system documentation
• Support and monitor A.O. Smith’s cloud footprint
• Perform regular capacity planning and usage trending
• Perform regular system security reviews

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Information systems, computer science, or related field, or equivalent experience and certifications
• At least 7 years of VMWare vSphere / ESXi experience in an enterprise environment
• At least 5 years of Storage experience in an enterprise environment
• Knowledge of IT security principles
• Knowledge and experience troubleshooting mid-tier storage arrays with emphasis on EMC VNX and Unity, and Dell Compellent
• Expert-level knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, PKI, DNS, and DFS a plus
• Thorough understanding of NTFS and share permissions, and creating server images
• Advanced troubleshooting skills with server hardware and Windows Server
• Experience automating tasks with PowerShell
• Experience with patch management products
• Experience supporting and configuring Cisco UCS
• Experience with Cisco HyperFlex / Cisco UCX is preferred
• AWS and Azure experience in an enterprise environment is preferred
