The Data Platform product is located within Viasat’s Data Analytics Hub where we are driving advances in data science and cloud engineering.
In your role as security engineer you will apply your passion for software and cloud security to focus on the Data Platform family while growing your own expertise in the intersection of software, cloud, scalable data pipelines, and security. You will be at the heart of keeping data safe and secure at scale!
Responsibilities
Your day will consist of product line security activities (SDLC) for globally distributed infrastructure and apps and guiding your engineering teammates as they define new features and improvements. You will help us drive security focused SDLC improvements, perform security focused code reviews, as well as help crafting and implementing security features directly to PROD yourself.
- Work with your lead and data platform teams to prioritize, plan and implement security improvements
- Support risk assessments, architecture and code reviews
- Conduct application penetration testing and vulnerability assessments
- Help with development security features and services for production environments
- Utilize DevSecOps methodologies to drive security of cloud infrastructure, software services, and client libraries
- Research and develop security services, tools, methods, and prototypes
Requirements
- 1+ years software development
- 2+ years security engineering
- Familiarity with cloud and cloud services (AWS preferred) or proven knowledge
- Understanding of networking and common protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP, HTTPS, routing protocols)
- Experience within Unix/Linux server environments
- Understanding of application security vulnerabilities and mitigation strategies.
- Experience with automated and manual security assessment techniques
- Familiarity with distributed systems and database technologies
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- BS in technical field or equivalent experience
- Travel up to 10%
Preferences
- Experience with NoSQL and SQL data storage techniques
- Security certifications (such as: GCSA, GPEN, OCSP, OSWE, CEH)
- Experience with any government and industry compliance regimes (such as: PCI, HIPPA, GDPR, SOX, FEDRAMP)
- MS in software or security fields
