The Sr. Director Operations leads the department’s security, safety, crisis management and loss prevention strategic and tactical response capabilities in support of the Company’s field, supply chain and corporate operations. The Sr. Director Operations reports directly to the VP of Security & Loss Prevention and works collaboratively with investigations, store and supply chain teams and with all functions across the enterprise. The Sr. Director, Operations develops networks and trust-based relationships with internal stakeholders and business leaders and externally with industry peers, government officials, local authorities, customers and service providers to coordinate and delivery security solutions to protect the company’s assets.
The Senior Director, Operations manages direct reports and is responsible for their performance and career development.
The Sr Director Operations maintains an understanding of the current political, economic and social environment which may have adverse effects on the business. He/she is required to analyze data, spot trends and overcome barriers to drive security strategies and programs. The Sr Director Operations assesses risks and develops strategies to counter security, safety, loss prevention risks, gain buy-in and support from appropriate management, oversees implementation of safety and security programs and confirms the effectiveness of these initiatives and strategies. Oversees and reports on the Company’s overall safety and security performance.
This senior position is responsible for managing the core operational capability of the Company’s security, safety, crisis management and loss prevention programs. The role represents varying levels of complexity requiring a higher level of skill, composure and charisma. The Sr Director Operations performs the role independently with limited supervision. The work material can involve high-level, sensitive and confidential matters that require the Sr. Director’s sound judgement and discretion.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement policies, protocols and procedures.
- Develop and implement programs and initiatives to protect the Company’s assets, to include workplace violence prevention, background screening, travel security, etc.
- Manage EHS leader and program.
- Oversee department capital and expense budgets.
- Provide converged and coordinated electronic security system guidance to all facilities across the enterprise. Align initiatives with IT services, real estate and other key stakeholders. Coordinate system repair and updates to minimize operational disruption. Maintain the Company’s electronic security systems standards and guidelines to include security system asset lifecycle.
- Manage and administer department’s vendor relationships. Develop and maintain 3rd party security standards for inclusion in company procurement templates.
- Monitor and report on the organization’s security and safety performance through metrics, databases and dashboards.
- Act as Crisis Management coordinator and support company’s crisis management and business continuity programs and plans. Coordinate crisis management and business continuity plans with disaster recovery.
- Lead the department’s training and awareness initiatives. Build and maintain awareness and training material library.
- Provide department and key stakeholders with risk information, analyzed, distilled and relevant to company operations.
- Manage headquarters’ facility security plan to include coordinating executive protection initiatives and event security.
- Draft and distribute security, LP and safety communications and alerts.
- Continuously maintain and benchmark initiatives and programs with external organizations and peers.
- Provide security, safety and loss prevention support to stores, distribution centers, eCommerce and other company facilities.
- Administer, in coordination with Loss Prevention team, the company’s merchandise protection strategy.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred or equivalent work experience.
- 10+ years of relevant security, loss prevention and/or safety experience.
- 10+ years of leadership in multi-facility, geographically diverse organization.

- Functional/Technical Skill:
Project Management: Ability to conceptualize, communicate, plan, promote/influence, implement and manage security-related initiatives.
Risk Management: Understands risk assessment process related to core business functions, and corresponding development of strategies to mitigate the impact of identified vulnerabilities.
Security system design: Expert knowledge of security hardware, intrusion detection/alarm, video surveillance, and access control systems, electronic security issues and safeguards. Ability to design systems and provide for long-term planning related to system asset lifecycle.
Policies, Protocols and Guidelines: Able to write and publish clear and concise policies and procedure documents that have been vetted across the organization’s stakeholders with maximum success implementing at all levels.
IT Technical Projects: Understands and demonstrated experience with the structure and design of IT system networks and their methods of providing confidentiality, integrity and availability to intellectual property and sensitive data . able to apply IT knowledge and experience towards creation of risk-based security standards, procedures and controls.
Crisis Management: Able to advise on incident management planning and exercise coordination. Experience executing and/or leading crises.
Workplace Violence: Experience developing and implementing a workplace violence risk assessment and response plan rooted in the Company’s established crisis management and threat assessment processes.
Travel
Travel nationally to distribution centers and stores required and may vary in length and duration.
