Position Summary

This role serves as Univision’s primary attorney supporting all of Univision’s technology deals, licensing, and development partnerships. More specifically, this role: (1) will support Univision’s in-house development of its streaming products (e.g., PrendeTV) and ad tech functionalities; (2) will negotiate and draft a wide variety of technology agreements, including both inbound and outbound licensing deals and innovative development partnership arrangements; and (3) will serve as an expert on technology licensing, including SaaS arrangements, implicated intellectual property rights, and risk allocations. This role requires an attorney with significant experience working with technology teams and arrangements, in both traditional television/radio and innovative digital spaces, as well as exemplary legal expertise in applicable law pertaining to technology.

Job Responsibilities

  • Serve as a partner to Univision’s innovative streaming and advertising teams in the develop of Univision’s streaming platforms and ad tech functionalities
  • Serve as a day-to-day strategic business and legal analyst with respect to Univision’s more general development and licensing of technology, including maintaining template agreements, and managing, negotiating, and drafting custom arrangements for inbound and outbound licensing and development partnerships.
  • Work collaboratively with Univision’s business divisions in crafting and developing innovative technology arrangements
  • Manage Univision’s portfolio of owned technology intellectual property, including copyrights and patents
  • Coordinate with Univision’s privacy and data handling team to ensure compliance with Univision’s policies with respect to all technology deals and practices
  • Coordinate with Univision’s security team regarding best practices in cybersecurity, so that Univision’s deals reflect those practices
  • Serve as Univision’s primary legal expert in SaaS arrangements and technology licensing, intellectual property law as it relates to technology development and licensing, and risk management related to technology (including applicable litigation standards and risks)
  • Remain current in legal requirements and best practices regarding technology law, including active engagement with relevant professionals
  • Manage a small team of other legal professionals to support the foregoing responsibilities

Required Skills & Experience

  • Juris Doctor degree
  • Current license to practice law in at least one state; eligible to practice in California, New York, or Florida
  • 12+ years of day-to-day experience negotiating and drafting complex commercial agreements, preferably in the areas of technology and licensing
  • 5+ years working with intellectual property rights as they pertain to technology development and deals
  • 5+ years working with technology risks and risk allocations, such as cybersecurity breaches
  • 5+ years of practical experience with digital technology, social media, and streaming products

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Significant experience drafting and maintaining standard legal terms and conditions
  • Significant experience leading and negotiating deals with sophisticated parties in the technology space, especially as it pertains to media
  • Significant experience serving as a legal expert on technology deals, development, and risk allocations
  • Deep knowledge of applicable laws and regulations governing technology, including SaaS structures, licensing standards, intellectual property rights, risk allocations, and applicable government regulations
  • Demonstrated organization, facilitation, communication, and presentation skills
  • Highly collaborative individual with ability to influence others and build strong professional relationships, including with technology, business, and legal partners
  • Deep experience managing high-stakes issues in a professional, assertive, and proactive manner
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple, cross-functional projects
