Position Summary

This role will: (1) lead Univision’s legal efforts to manage consumer data responsibly; (2) design and build a program of industry-appropriate privacy and information security policies and practices; and (3) provide transactional legal support to UCI’s business units that manage consumer data. The role requires an attorney with exemplary legal expertise in privacy policies, practices, and compliance, information security, and commercial contracts, as well as cross-functional leadership experience and a thorough understanding of digital technology and use of consumer data. Experience with content streaming and online advertising processes highly desired.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead Univision’s creation of an industry-appropriate privacy and consumer data framework
  • Work with senior leaders to establish effective, practical controls, including auditing practices, with respect to data collection, management, and storage
  • Manage a cross-functional committee that sets policies for responsible use of data and oversees an effective data management/information security system
  • Establish and maintain a system for training Univision’s employees and contractors and ensuring adherence to policies for responsible use of data
  • Conduct privacy impact assessments to analyze risks in new or changed business activities
  • Provide negotiating and contract drafting support to UCI’s business units that manage customer data
  • Remain current in legal requirements and best data management practices, resources, and technology solutions, including active engagement with other privacy professionals
  • Co-chair a cross-functional incident response team with respect to data breaches
  • Coordinate with senior members of Univision’s Legal and Communications teams to respond to inquiries from regulators, enforcement agencies, and data protection authorities
  • Coordinate with Univision’s Communications team and business units to articulate Univision’s privacy principles, including regular review and updates to Univision’s internal and external privacy policies and practices

Required Skills & Experience

  • Juris Doctor degree
  • Current license to practice law in at least one state; eligible to practice in New York or Florida
  • 12+ years of legal experience, with at least 5 years in privacy
  • 5+ years of practical experience with digital technology
  • Significant expertise negotiating and drafting commercial contracts, especially with respect to terms and conditions governing consumer data

Desired Skills & Experience

  • IAPP certification or deep knowledge of United States privacy laws and regulations
  • Demonstrated ability to design and build a privacy program
  • Demonstrated ability to manage privacy and information security incidents and matters
  • Proven experience articulating and managing privacy and information security across an organization with a number of different business models
  • Demonstrated organization, facilitation, communication, and presentation skills
  • Ability to lead a cross-functional team in a fast-paced environment
  • Highly collaborative individual with ability to influence others and build strong professional relationships, including with technology, business, and legal partners
  • Strong ability to navigate through barriers to drive successful initiatives throughout the business
  • Deep experience managing high-stakes issues in a professional, assertive, and proactive manner
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple, cross-functional projects
