This Learning (Education Services) role will report to the Regional Training Manager to support Ciena’s Learning Services Business across Customers, Partners, and Employees in the Americas. The ideal instructor will instruct new and updated training delivery programs in line with Learning Services policies, and procedures. The ideal candidate will be responsible for traditional classroom methods as well as deliver new ways of learning through a variety of media including Virtual and Online Instruction.

We’re looking for highly motivated and talented packet networking knowledgeable technical trainer who is passionate about engineering velocity and automation. In this role you will work directly with Learning Development, Product Management, Sales Engineering, Customer account teams, and Product support in bringing our next generation training solutions to market.

What will you do at Ciena?

  • Work directly with sales teams to help define training requirements for customer and Ciena employees
  • Deliver Ciena Product and Solutions training to customer and Ciena employees
  • Assist in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of CIENA training systems
  • Travel to customer locations as required to deliver targeted instructional programs
  • Support the Global account/sales engineering community with pre-sales and post-sales activities that may include market readiness (new product introduction) support, technical consultation, solution evaluation and architecture design, and other engineering network design consulting.
  • Embrace the ‘feedback loop’ by engaging with various engineering teams to transform concepts, requirements and telemetry into new training concepts.

  • Keep abreast of Training requirements necessary to meet customer training needs

Requirements:

  • Good IP routing knowledge both standards-based theory and configuration\provisioning (OSPF, BGP, ISIS, MPLS based IP VPN’s). 2-5 years of experience engineering packet transport solutions in the context of large carrier and enterprise networks is essential. (Must)
  • Hands-on experience engineering, testing or deploying networks on Carrier Ethernet or IP based platforms with one or more of the following; Ciena, Alcatel-Lucent, Cisco, Juniper, Huawei, Adva.
  • Excellent understanding of MEF based Carrier Ethernet Services.
  • Hands-on experience and working knowledge of provisioning of packet networking related technologies (IP/MPLS, MPLS-TE, MPLS-TP, PBB, G.8032 QinQ, 1588V2 , Synch E services, TDM Pseudowires etc. )
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge in a technology or solution area such as Optical Transport Network (OTN), SONET/SDH, PON/FTTH, VoIP, IPTV, mobile backhaul, photonic layer, 2G/3G/4G/LTE/5G, etc
  • Understand, plan and implement photonic link engineering using the tools associated with such activities.
  • Experience with SDN/NFV would be an asset.
  • Experience with DCI or Data Center experience, Metro networks deployment, Video/MSO experience an asset.
  • Familiarity with prolific industry orchestration and management solutions for packet networks would be an asset.
  • Good knowledge of UNIX/LINUX and Windows system administration an asset.
  • Experience with Scripting & Coding (Python, RESTful, TCL, Expect, bash, Perl, JavaScipt etc) an asset.
  • Familiarity with security concepts and the handling of protected customer data an asset.
  • Proven debugging and troubleshooting skills.
  • Highly self-motivated team player with ability to collaborate and interact with cross-functional organizations both within Ciena, our customers and with our partners in the face of significant challenge or ambiguity
  • Excellent presentation / communication skills a must.
  • Ability to work with customers and account teams to understand requirements and priorities
  • Multitasking and adaptability to changing project, priorities and market demands.
  • Ability for frequent Domestic and International travel at short notice.
  • Successful practical problem solving, excellent written and interpersonal communication, and documentation skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently
  • Prior classroom experience is a plus
  • Language proficiency in English and Spanish is a plus
