Job Summary

The System Architect role is to strategically design and implement information systems and networked software architectures that support both core Nordson functions and Nordson business requirements. This individual is responsible for managing Infrastructure & Operations projects from initial organizational requirements through project closure. This individual is responsible for strategic vision and technical roadmaps for assigned technical service lines. The individual will evaluate and select technologies and implementation strategies required to implement those roadmaps. They will work closely with the Service Line leaders and teams to identify, recommend, develop, document, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions. This person will assist in defining and implementing IT policies, procedures, and best practices.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

* Project management for assigned projects in the I&O project portfolio. Responsible for delivering projects on time, in budget, and to scope.
* Project management duties include:

* Requirements gathering
* Technology evaluation and selection
* Following PMO standard process (plan, schedule, budget, manage risk, manage communication)
* Manage project work performed by other groups.
* Lead small project teams.
* Manage stakeholder expectations and communication.
* Execute project tasks as required.

* Maintain technical expertise for assigned service line technologies.
* Support assigned Service Lines in technical roadmap planning and execution.
* Support projects and enhancements as a resource.
* Support assigned Service Lines in technical escalations.
* Other duties or projects as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements

Required Education:

* Bachelor’s Degree in Information Science, Computer Science/Engineering, Computer Information Systems or related technical degree.
* In lieu of degree, consideration for up to 5 years of direct experience in implementing large scale technical projects as project manager.

Required Length & Type of Experience:

* Minimum of 5 years implementing technical infrastructure solutions.
* Demonstrable knowledge of system administration and implementation
* Experience managing Information Technology projects

Skills and Abilities

* Extensive experience in developing and deploying IT systems.
* Direct experience with business requirements gathering/analysis.
* Experience in systems and network design and development.
* Strong understanding of information processing principles and practices.
* Strong knowledge of software evaluation principles and practices.
* Proven project planning and management experience.
* Proven ability to lead a small team to complete a project.
* Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities.
* Superior written and oral communication skills.
* Excellent architecture and technical support documentation skills.
* Strong interpersonal and consultative skills.
* Ability to conduct research into emerging technologies and trends, standards, and products as required.
* Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
* Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
* Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

* Occasional regional travel.
* Occasional national travel.
* Occasional overnight travel.
* Possible international travel.
* Must have reliable, appropriate transportation.

* Job requires visitation to various Nordson and customer sites, which have varying environments/conditions, layouts, and accessibility.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

* Employee may be required to remain stationary for extended periods of time.
* Employee may occasionally be required to transverse through office and/or manufacturing locations.
* Employee will frequently be required to actively listen and exchange information.
* Employee will be required to observe and assess information received via computer.
* Requires use of computer, telephone, and operation of a motor vehicle.
