Job Summary (Primary function)The Desktop Support Specialist II is responsible for various support and administration of end user technologies. Activities include full life cycle of personal computers, mobile phones, and other end user technologies and software. This includes various client image management, desktop support, project implementation tasks, and server side administration is required for Active Directory account management, virus, spam and spyware/malware monitoring.

Essential Functions of the Job (Key responsibilities)

  • Responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing company and multi-vendor systems which include hardware, software and networking products as well as operating systems.
  • Installs and optimizes HW/SW/Networking product and configurations.
  • Perform diagnostics and resolves product performance problems.
  • Ensures customer satisfaction by preventative maintenance and configurations which may impact product performance.
  • Needs a thorough understanding of Windows 7 & 8.1 and PC hardware.
  • Responsibilities include imaging and configuring PCs that are required to fulfill incidents, IMAC, and Refresh projects.
  • Installing, maintaining and repairing company and multi-vendor systems which include hardware, software and networking products as well as operating systems.
  • Perform configurations and Break/Fix in a PC configuration and setup environment.
  • Process daily tickets to meet or exceed SLA’s.
  • Work will include troubleshooting, hot swaps and asset tracking tasks.
  • PC/laptop Hardware and software, Advanced
  • Hardware installation, diagnostics and support, Experienced.
  • Maintain knowledge of current and new technologies. Seek opportunities to learn new skills.
  • Research problems and products when necessary.
  • Provide on premise support for projects and other support teams where needed.
  • Support and maintenance of inventory and asset management processes and procedures.

Qualifications (Minimal acceptable level of education, work experience, and competency)

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5-7 years Desktop Support and administration experience.
  • Strong hardware and software installation and support experience.
  • Ability to install, test and troubleshoot computers and peripherals.
  • Experience with various hardware including Toshiba, HP, Compaq and IBM laptops and desktops as well as various client peripherals including lab components.
  • Experience with various operating systems including Windows XP and newer. Some Apple Operating System experience is preferred.
  • Experience with client applications including MS Office, MS Exchange, MS Project, MS Visio, Adobe Acrobat, Internet Explorer, Symantec Anti-Virus, and various standard client components including media players, compression tools, remote access programs, etc. Experience with pharmaceutical applications such as ChemDraw, Accord, Diva, DSGene, Prism, SciFinder, and MOE is also preferred.
  • Understanding of or experience with imaging and diagnostic tools.
  • ITIL Certification a Plus.
  • Microsoft Certification (any) – Required.
  • CompTIA A+ certification – Required.
  • Ability to multi-task and mange time efficiently.
