Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for the operation of the company’s IBM AIX Power 8 servers and all related activities including: monitoring, trouble shooting, configuration, system upgrades, routine maintenance, performance tuning, backup & recovery, and disaster recovery. Serves as the security administrator for AIX and assists in the resolution of any audit points that are assigned. Must be a self-starter while working within a strong team environment consisting of DBAs, developers, storage admin, key stakeholders and off-shore resources. Will participate in migration projects, provide support for production issues, and be available for on-call support 24/7 for all AIX systems related issues. Knowledge of Oracle DB and Oracle applications in a manufacturing a plus. Knowledge of EMC XIO, Unity storage, EMC tools, and Powerpath.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitors daily operation of AIX servers (e.g. space usage, CPU, memory and performance)
  • Provide support for any and all issues related to AIX P9 systems
  • Verifies system backups running on schedule and the Netbackup server is healthy
  • Upgrading and patching of AIX as well as other components on the AIX based servers
  • Maintain environment specific AIX/Oracle Best practices documentation
  • Provide security authorizations for users at the AIX level in a SOX-Compliant landscape4
  • Works closely with the Oracle DBA and application Teams to provide assistance, support, security, and trouble shooting
  • Provides SOX-compliant evidence, audits, logs, etc. as well as responds to all assigned audit points
  • Monitors systems for conditions that may be detrimental to performance or operation and addresses problems in a prompt and efficient manner
  • Work with business owners and vendors on projects and to resolve issues
  • Evaluate the technology environment from a high level perspective and recommend changes
  • Maintain Disaster Recovery configuration/plans and execute Disaster recovery tests
  • Build new AIX LPAR using NIM and HMC tools (AIX mksysb cloning)
  • Experience writing scripts for maintenance and trouble shooting
Qualifications

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Must have experience with IBM AIX 7 or above
  • Prefer with Oracle 19C DB and Oracle 12 application on IBM P-series
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP (DNS and DHCP), Ethernet networks, as well as server application software and tools a plus.
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Tivoli, nmon, EMC ViPR, splunk, etc.
  • Experience writing scripts for maintenance and trouble shooting
  • Good organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to multi-task effectively, self-motivated, and can work independent of direct supervision.
  • Excellent communications skills required to interact with both IT resources as well as general users. The ability to give clear verbal and written information geared to specific audiences.
  • Must have the ability to absorb information quickly and make decisions as to how to proceed with each issue based on its own merit.

  • May at times, due to the nature of the duties performed, come in contact with confidential information and is responsible for guarding against the disclosure of such information to unauthorized personnel.
  • Must be able to communicate with all levels of the company personnel as well as Regal Beloit customers and vendors and must always reflect a courteous and professional attitude.
  • Must be able to analyze and recommend infrastructure configurations (systems, OS, etc.) that best serve company’s existing and future needs

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor Degree in an IT related discipline and at least 3-5 years of experience in a datacenter environment utilizing IBM’s AIX & Oracle.
  • Extensive understanding of IBM AIX operating system and general knowledge of Oracle ERP Apps and Database
  • Good working knowledge of IBM Power hardware
  • IBM Certified Advanced Technical Expert –Power Systems with AIX or IBM Certified System Administrator – AIX 6.1/7.1 Administration preferred
  • Experience with Netbackup 8, EMC Storage Xtreme IO, Unity, PowerMax, or PowerStore Storage
