By joining our North American Commercial Lines Solution Architecture and Engineering team, you’ll be instrumental in architecting and guiding the engineering for our next generation underwriting platforms, platforms that span our Commercial Lines businesses. You’ll engage with business and technical stakeholders alike to understand our current environment and evolving business needs. We’ll look to you to leverage your broad technical background to take those needs, analyze and assess technical options available, and then to design and architect solutions that will both meet today’s business needs and scale as those needs evolve. Here, you won’t be bound by technology; rather you’ll have the opportunity to explore what suits our needs the best, leveraging those options to define and architect solutions that lead our strategic programs to success.
In This Role, You Will
- Develop flexible, adaptable, modular and reusable business solution architecture designs in collaboration with product delivery and operation support teams
- Work with project managers and engineers to ensure alignment of program deliverables to defined and engineer sound technical solution
- Work with developers closely to review code, enforce best practices, debug critical issues, and conduct performance testing to deliver efficient and performant applications
- Evaluate, learn and assist teams with open source technology solutions
- Responsible for identifying technology risk and corresponding mitigation strategies
- Implement appropriate solution architecture governance processes and tools while maintaining a key focus on design patterns and technology standards
- Act as an enabler of Agile and DevOps practices in collaboration with product delivery and operation support teams
- Explore, evaluate and promote technology innovation within the enterprise
Location:
While our preference is that you will be based in our Whitehouse Station, NJ location, we are open to you being based in either Jersey City, NJ or Philadelphia, PA. Some travel (5-10%) may be required to meet with business sponsors and participate in strategy and roadmap workshops.
Qualifications
- At least 10+ years of hands-on application architecture experience, with an interest in continuing to partner with engineers at code/detailed design level
- Bachelor’s degree required, specialization in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline preferred
- Prior experience as a software engineer with an orientation towards back-end development strongly preferred
- An understanding across broad technologies such as .NET, Java, Kafka, MQ, JavaScript, Angular, Node.js, Azure, AWS preferred
- Experience in application modularization and modernization including adoption of Micro Service Architecture models
- Experience in Integration Architectures from Service Bus to API Mediation and Event Bus models
- Ability to abstract-up to harvest patterns and articulate design decisions with senior audience (CIO level)
- Extensive knowledge and experience of underwriting platform architectures, from blueprint to solution design and implementation
- Ability to guide and mentor development teams on sound design and coding principles along with best practices in API based, Micro Services and Cloud environments
- Ability to work with development teams closely together to guide the execution of system designs and to review code, debug issues, and conduct performance testing to build efficient and performant applications if/as needed
- Knowledge of and/or exposure to in Information Security and Risk Management as it relates to application architecture and integration
- Prior experience with and/or exposure to cloud solution design and implementation of IaaS, PaaS and SaaS and hybrid models
- Understanding of platform design and technology considerations to build out an ecosystem for producers and consumers
- An understanding of Insurance business domains, especially in commercial property and casualty space is a huge plus
In Jersey City, NJ the pay range for the role is $106,500 to $176,000. The specific offer will depend on an applicant’s skills and other factors. This role may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program.
