This position is part of the Information Security and Risk Management team and will lead efforts in managing and mitigating information security related risk activities. This position will assist information security and privacy team members and partner with various Business Units (Product) and Information Technology groups to build and maintain processes and tools to effectively manage privacy related risks.

This candidate will be expected to have a solid foundation in managing and recommending privacy by design concepts and procedures. The ideal candidate will be responsible for assessing and recommending adequate technical safeguards to ensure personal information (PI) is maintained in a manner that satisfies legal requirements and appropriately available to meet business needs. This selected candidate will also help create and review procedures, awareness communications, and other relevant materials related to privacy and data governance with the guidance of the legal department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with various stakeholder groups to promote and build a culture of security and ensure applications are designed and built keeping privacy in mind. Develop standards where required.
  • Partner with application teams across Applied to assess and implement privacy-by-design principles to help manage risk.
  • Assist the legal team with privacy risk and impact assessments to understand risk landscape and identify and implement relevant mitigation strategies
  • Audit documented security controls to ensure they are functioning as intended
  • Communicate with privacy leadership and business stakeholders on issues raised during all reviews. Assist with development of action plans for issues/gaps identified.
  • Work closely with development teams and assist in the remediation efforts. Enable appropriate monitoring and partner with legal on incident response.
  • Participate in the Privacy Incident Management program by triaging, investigating, coordinating resources cross-functionally to respond as needed to incidents, and addressing gaps identified throughout the process
  • Translate existing and upcoming legal requirements provided by legal into actionable, specific controls to protect personal information during its entire lifecycle
  • Help document cross-border data flows and work with stakeholders to complete assessments for complex global and regional technologies and systems that process personal information
  • Create relevant documentation and metrics for your stakeholders and business leaders and deliver these in a clear, concise manner

Qualifications

  • Experience understanding and implementing technical and procedural controls to comply with privacy and data protection laws around the globe
  • Understanding of privacy engineering concepts and principles. Knowledge of information assurance principles and their application
  • Ability to work with the business and IT to understand and document complex, global information systems and cross-border data flows
  • Experience writing and explaining technical documentation, concepts, and procedures in plain language for a broad range of audiences
  • 5+ years’ experience in privacy/data protection engineering
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in computer science, computer engineering, privacy engineering or related field
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to adapt messaging to executive, technical, and non-technical audiences
  • Cybersecurity and/or systems background/experience
  • Experience with OneTrust or similar tool
  • Familiarity with NIST 800-171, ISO 27001, and ISO 27701 a plus
  • Privacy certifications, i.e., CIPT, CDPSE a plus
