About the role

As a Principal Security Engineer you will contribute directly · to updating security policies, procedures, and documentation when and as required. You will also use your expertise to independently evaluate security controls used to protect Zillow’s infrastructure and suggest changes/improvements . You will assist in security risk management initiatives, internal security assessments, vendor security risk assessments, and external security audits and your expertise will help the team to analyze the security systems and seek improvements on a continuous basis.

As a Principal Security Engineer you will:

  • Implement Zillow’s IT security policy and procedures and supervise compliance.
  • Deploy, coordinate, operate, and support multiple security solutions such as CASB, email security solutions, Vulnerability scanning tools, patch management tools, EDR, SIEM, DLP, network security solutions, etc.
  • Have the opportunity to learn and advance your skills through assisting in implementing NIST security controls and maintaining compliance.
  • Analyze trends, news, and changes in the threat and compliance landscape with respect to organizational risk, and engineer solutions to compensate
  • Coordinate with a wider variety of other technical groups including product cybersecurity, engineering teams, and the broader IT team to establish security as a root of the organization.
  • Use your knowledge and expertise to implement security standard methodologies in Zillow.

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice which must be identified to the Company. Employees may live in any of the 50 US States, with limited exceptions. In certain cases, an employee in a remote-designated job may need to live in a specific region or time zone to support customers or clients as part of their role. In Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada and New York City the standard base pay range for this role is $143,200.00 – $228,800.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada and New York City and may not be applicable to other locations.

Who you are

  • 5+ years of full-time experience in Information Technology implementation, maintenance, and support.
  • 3+ years of full-time hands-on experience in an IT Security position.
  • Extensive knowledge of hardware systems, system software, networks, and application software development lifecycle methodologies.
  • Ability to build Architectural Documentation for new and existing projects
  • Ability to build, update, and maintain documentation of applications: Operational Documentation, Process Documentation, Data Flow, executive summary documentation and diagrams, as well as technical network and system diagram(s)
  • Experience operating in and securing cloud environments
  • Understanding of NIST standards and experience implementing controls mandated by the standards.
  • Ability to research and determine best-practices concepts relative to all aspects of both system environment and information security.
  • Provide technical leadership and support for business units and/or internal network projects
  • Understanding of network standard methodologies and experience guiding segmentation efforts
  • Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written.
  • An inquiring mentality with the ability to think analytically and provide effective feedback, where appropriate.
  • Work independently with guidance only in most sophisticated situations.

Additional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Engineering fields or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Network certifications like CISCO CCNA
  • Security certifications like Security+, CASP, CEH, CISSP, etc.
  • Cloud certifications like AWS
  • Ability to think strategically and tactically, with effective decision-making skills.
  • Highly dependable and leads by example.
