Job Overview:

The Junior System administrator will work under the close guidance of the Network Engineer in all duties and responsibilities. This person is responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems and servers. They install hardware and software and participate in research and development to continuously improve and keep up with the IT business needs of their organization. Our Junior System administrator will actively resolve problems and issues with computer and server systems to limit work disruptions within the company.

 

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Perform server administration tasks, including user/group administration, security permissions, group policies, print services, research event log warnings and errors, and resource monitoring, ensuring system architecture components work together seamlessly.
  • Responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems, network servers, desktop workstations and virtualization.
  • Install and upgrade computer components and software, manage virtual servers, and integrate automation processes.
  • Install computers and network components including termination of network cabling.
  • Monitor datacenter health using preexisting management tools and respond to hardware issues as they arise; help build, test, and maintain new servers as needed.
  • Provide documentation and technical specifications to IT staff for planning and implementing new or upgrades of IT infrastructure.
  • Monitor regular backup operations and assist with the implementation of appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures.
  • Perform desktop and helpdesk support, making sure all desktop applications, workstations, and related equipment problems are resolved in a timely manner with limited disruptions.
  • Assist with managing capacity, storage planning, and IT systems performance.
  • Assist with remediation of security vulnerabilities found during regular network scans and intrusion detections.

Skills Required:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, System Administration, or a closely related field, or equivalent experience required.
  • System administration and IT certifications in Linux, Microsoft, or other network related fields are a plus.
  • Experience in Windows Server administration (configuration/troubleshooting etc.) is required.
  • Experience in Server virtualization is required. VMware specific experience is a plus.
  • Experience in Desktop administration (configuration/troubleshooting etc.) is required.
  • Working knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols is required.
  • Knowledge/experience in with scripting and automation tools such as Powershell is a plus.
  • Knowledge/experience in DevOps/Git/GitOps is a plus.
  • Knowledge/experience in Cisco or other network hardware/software a plus.

Job Requirements
