The IT Systems & Cloud Engineer secures, manages and maintains a reliable and highly available hybrid cloud Infrastructure composed of multiple technologies. This includes building, securing and automating an Enterprise Class Cloud Environment in Azure as well as on premise application and system operations, while following guidelines set by the infrastructure team. The Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, testing, implementation, maintenance and support of a robust and secure environment. He/she will support the goal of automating as many of the deployments as possible, improving our resiliency, reliability, and efficiency. This position is also responsible for developing detailed plans, configurations, management and other related documentation about our cloud Infrastructure. The Engineer is responsible for successfully managing initiatives related to the implementation of all individually assigned cloud infrastructure components. He/she anticipates IT industry direction and makes recommendations to support current and future cloud infrastructure needs and projects.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Ensure our Azure cloud systems are stable, continuously monitored and running efficiently; provide Azure Cloud technical and administration support.
  • Partner effectively with IT and Analytics teams on shared technologies and support during deployments; provide mentoring on cloud technologies to other team members.
  • Configure and support on-premise applications running on the Microsoft server platform such as IIS, .NET, PowerShell, and SQL.
  • Investigate and resolve complex cloud infrastructure related issues, document resolution steps.
  • Automate patching and maintenance of existing infrastructure including compute instances.
  • Create dashboards for application and cloud infrastructure performance monitoring and alerting as well as security and compliance non-conformance monitoring
  • Address vulnerabilities and non-compliance findings.
  • Collaborate with DevSecOps teams on CI/CD pipeline to deploy assets to the cloud (Cloud Infrastructure, security, and code).
  • Apply In-depth technical knowledge to lead, develop and automate our Cloud Services.
  • Assist to coordinate tasks across the different team members.
  • Participates in various IT projects intended to continually improve/upgrade the IT infrastructure.
  • Accountable for the successful delivery of assigned projects; provides accurate and consistent status reports.
  • Interfaces with project team and group members to ensure assigned project charters are consistent with Group objectives and goals; applies program management approach to all project related activities.
  • Researches new technologies for cloud infrastructure strategies and other related projects.
  • Manages the maintenance of cloud infrastructure; ensures compatibility and compliance with regulations, contracts and licensing agreements.
  • Develops and maintains procedures and ensures documentation exists for all aspects of cloud deployments and operation.
  • Provides input to the establishment of technical standards and procedures; performs situation analysis and makes recommendations for solving problems.
  • Support IT Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) controls, including the gathering and organizing of documentation and evidence.
  • Acts as liaison between EQR and vendors, as needed.
  • Provide weekend and after-hours support as required by the position. 
  • Performs other duties, as necessary

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline; equivalent experience is acceptable.
  • 3+ years configuration management and Infrastructure as Code with Terraform.
  • 4+ years of relevant cloud System Administration.
  • 2 years of Microsoft SQL Server experience that consists of: knowing how to create & design data tables, can create & update stored procedures and functions, can read data diagrams, and has performed basic database administration tasks.
  • Strong automation mindset and a passion for root cause analysis and strategies to mitigate issues.
  • Experience with performance tuning and debugging issues of real time services and applications.
  • Familiar with the implementation and maintenance of IT monitoring tools such as SolarWinds Orion.
  • Proficient with Automation tooling
  • Docker/Kubernetes administration
  • Experience in hybrid cloud environments
  • Experience in creating and defining new architectural models and explaining complex problems or situations is essential.
  • Comfort with making project decisions, monitoring progress and reporting results is essential.
  • Must be forward thinking and have the ability to assist in the planning of infrastructure requirements two to four years in advance.
  • Excellent technical knowledge and aptitude in the areas of networks, network topologies, applicable software, and advanced troubleshooting techniques.
  • Must have the ability to solve cloud infrastructure issues and to manage the associated performance and capacity.
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively managing projects in a cross-functional environment.
  • Experience in effectively communicating with a broad base of end users and multiple management layers is needed.
  • Must have the ability to effectively adapt to rapidly changing technology and apply it to business needs.
  • Ability to anticipate user requirements and identify and resolve complex problems; strong customer service skills.
  • Good judgment and analytical skills; strong follow-up and organizational skills.
