Do you enjoy solving puzzles or working to find solutions to complex problems? Do you have experience with cyber defenses or implementing cyber security tools? If so, then you should join the Information Assurance Team. This position will administer tools and processes designed to further secure the UP environment by limiting the opportunity for malware or malicious user activity. As a member of the Information Assurance team, you will have the opportunity to grow your Cyber Security knowledge while using your current skills to improve the overall Cyber Security posture of Union Pacific. Team members will use industry-standard products to identify, track and remediate potentially malicious activity in UP’s electronic environment. The position is also engaged in consultation with other IT and business teams to identify and integrate security solutions across the business. The mission of the Information Assurance group is to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of Union Pacific’s computing resources, as well as, providing a reliable and scalable security infrastructure. Team members are given the autonomy to explore new and creative solutions to securing the information technology landscape of Union Pacific.

Accountabilities

  • Administer and support Windows, UNIX, or Cloud based security toolsets and processes such as hardened configurations, endpoint security, and privilege management
  • Identify, assess and prioritize remediation activities for security vulnerabilities
  • Discover, investigate and remediate security anomalies in the environment
  • Correlate and analyze large amounts of data from multiple systems to identify user behavior patterns
  • Member of Incident Response Support Team
  • Identify and evaluate: 1) business and technology risks, 2) internal controls which mitigate risks, and 3) methods and technologies to improve the internal control environment
  • Provide guidance and support for emerging security initiatives
  • Consult with other business and IT teams on Cyber Security best practices and secure system implementations

Qualifications

Required

  • A Bachelor’s degree or Master’s Degree in Cyber Security, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field. A minimum of 6 years recent Information Assurance experience may be taken into account in lieu of a degree.
  • Excellent written and dynamic verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work under minimal supervision
  • High degree of self-motivation, commitment and integrity
  • The ability to work well with others and as a member of a team
  • Flexible and able to handle stressful situations in a professional manner
  • 2+ years recent experience in administering or securing Windows, UNIX or Cloud based systems
  • 2+ years recent experience administering Cyber Security tools in a complex enterprise environment
  • 2+ years recent experience with scripting (e.g. python, PowerShell, bash)
  • Knowledge of security engineering, system securitynetwork security and security technologies (e.g. firewalls, mail protections, antivirusmalware, authentication systems, SIEM, etc)
  • Demonstrated understanding of control objectives, cyber threats and vulnerabilities

Preferred

  • 5 year(s) experience in Information Assurance or a Bachelor Degree with an emphasis in Information Assurance
  • Recent experience implementing and administering security technologies for a large enterprise
  • Experience reviewing raw log files, data correlation, and analysis (i.e. firewalls, network flow, IDS, system logs, SIEM)
  • Working knowledge of configuration management, TCP/IP, simple DNS, SSH, exploits and malware
  • Experience identifying vulnerabilities or areas of weakness which pose a threat and developing security controls to detect or prevent exploitation
  • Background in threat modeling for insider threat and user behavior analytics use cases
  • Demonstrated understanding of control objectives, cyber threats and vulnerabilities
  • Demonstrated understanding of IT Policy and Compliance frameworks
  • Prior experience creating scripts to analyze data and automate processes

Physical Requirements

  • While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee will spend extended hours in front of a computer screen

Work Conditions

  • Understand this position is part of the Incident Response Support Team and therefore is “on-call” including days, nights, weekend’s and holiday’s
