EMERGE, Kennametal’s early-career leadership development program, is focused on building emerging leaders within Kennametal through diverse experiences to expand their perspectives, develop functional expertise, and accelerate career development.

EMERGE will equip participants with leadership, professional, and technical skills necessary to drive performance and integration among business functions. This immersive program is 2 years in duration with diverse functional rotations within Kennametal’s IT, Finance, Operations, and Commercial business tracks. Participants must be willing to relocate or travel during the program. Post completion of the program, position placement will be into a role based on your strengths and interests, as well as business need at that time.

Program Tracks

IT –Our Global Information Technology Team is a trusted business partner translating needs into technical solutions and protecting our assets.

Finance -Our Finance team partners with the business every day to enable strategic decision-making while delivering best-practice financial processes, measurement, and execution.

Operations -Our operations team is at the heart of what we do. Focused on manufacturing, supply chain, and engineering, this team helps drive the success of our three business segments.

Commercial -Our Commercial Team combines a technical and business mindset to deliver the most valuable products, solutions, and know-how to our customers every day.

IT Track

Kennametal’s EMERGE IT Track is an intensive jump-start program specializing in technical and leadership courses. The program is divided into four specific assignments, coupled with intense classroom and distance-learning opportunities, in technology, leadership, and security. The objective of these learning opportunities is to expose program participants to a variety of approaches in solving complex business problems, as well as to give exposure to data analytics and reporting, networking design, application development integration & implementation, SMART factory, modern workplace, digital marketing & e-commerce, and cyber security. The track, therefore, facilitates professional and technical growth. The program is uniquely suited for people with strong technical/analytical acumen, combined with broad business interests.

As EMERGE IT Track graduates emerge with a technical foundation, project management skills, sharpened business acumen, and the ability to lead, your skills will be in great demand in Kennametal’s diverse businesses around the globe. Your first position after the program will be with the Kennametal IT group and in the country in which you joined the program. However, this is not a limiting factor for graduates since Kennametal encourages its leadership talent to work across many Kennametal businesses. Depending upon your goals, your career path may take you to related positions in other functional sectors of Kennametal businesses, where your Information Management background can make a significant contribution.

Program Eligibility

  • Completing a final academic year in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Business (with specialization in systems).
  • Strong organization, facilitation, leadership, project management, and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical approach to problem-solving.
  • Candidates with a minimum overall GPA of a 3.2 preferred.
