Design & Engineering Manager

Facebook is seeking a leader experienced in the design, engineering, and construction of critical facilities to become part of our Global Security (GS) Design & Engineering team. The Design & Engineering team endeavors to advance the state of security infrastructure development through strategic and innovative solutions. Candidates should understand critical aspects of design such that they can guide scalable design solutions and their associated means and methods to minimize risk to people, assets, and reputation while aligning with Infra Data Center’s (IDCs) overall mission to deliver data center capacity for the business. The Design & Engineering Associate will endeavor to develop, facilitate, and streamline processes to improve efficiency and consistency in physical security design & construction. The Design & Engineering Associate will lead the planning and global coordination of physical security elements into IDC’s design documentation. This includes working with various cross-functional teams within Global Security to ensure physical security standards are properly integrated into IDC’s technical standards as well working closely with Global Security and IDC’s change management processes to provide predictability in Global Security design and execution. It also includes extensive coordination with Network Security and Information Security teams to ensure that physical security controls compliment and balance logical controls, creating consistency and alignment for security controls across the enterprise.
Design & Engineering Manager Responsibilities
  • Create framework for project execution of physical security design scope.
  • Support integration of physical security design elements into civil, landscape, structural, architectural, and electrical design elements.
  • Partner with the Global Security standards team and other program specialists to understand current and future design standards for consistency and stakeholder alignment.
  • Ensure that all physical security design requirements and guidelines are clearly communicated. This will require attending meetings and working across all levels of the organization to provide background and educate both technical and non-technical stakeholders on physical security design requirements.
  • Maintains communication with design & build teams across IDC’s Design, Engineering, and Construction team.
  • Maintains communication with information security (InfoSec) and network security (NetSec) teams to ensure physical security requirements compliment and balance logical security controls.
  • End-to-end coordination of physical security design changes through established change management processes.
  • Monitors IDC’s roadmap for capacity demand, participates in program strategy meetings, and supports Global Security’s strategic growth priorities.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of commonly used concepts, strategies, practices, and procedures within the physical security.
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge of discipline, construction technology, design, applicable codes, standards, etc., as required to lead our global physical security strategy and align with internal and external partners.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills and capable of working well in a team environment.
  • Exercises creativity and resourcefulness in engaging in and managing through complex problems for aligned delivery.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (MEP, Architectural, Structural, or Civil), Construction Management, or a related field, a combination of education and work experience will also be considered in lieu of degree.
  • 4+ years of work experience in large scale corporate/technology/industrial design, construction, operations, and maintenance or similar experience in mission critical and/or technical facility projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of building design and construction management.
  • Experience with physical security principles.
  • Experience prioritizing requests and managing project(s) & project teams to meet target delivery dates.
  • Proficient understanding construction contracts, documents, & schedules.
  • Experience with communicating technical details to all organizational levels, including non-technical personnel.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in Engineering (MEP, Architectural, Structural, or Civil), Construction Management, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in the field or in a related area preferred. Work experience in all disciplines of construction (civil, structural, architectural, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and security/low voltage) preferred.
  • Experience analyzing business needs, creating input to process and overall security delivery.
  • Experience with site selection, due diligence, and master planning of large-scale mission critical projects or other campus-style projects.
