Salary

The salary range for this classification is $6,686 to $12,947 per month. The anticipated salary hiring range is up to $11,729 per month, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Network Analyst-Expert

Position Information

The California State University, Office of the Chancellor, is seeking a Data Center Infrastructure Analyst to perform broad, in-depth, expert-level systems design, implementation, administration, monitoring, maintenance, and security for the Chancellor’s Office multi-site network, cloud services, VoIP, virtual infrastructure, and storage arrays. This position is also responsible for cross-team project deliverables, initiatives, trouble-shooting activities, and 24x7x365 operational support.

Responsibilities

Under the general direction of the Associate Director, CO Data Center Services, the Data Center Infrastructure Analyst will perform tasks and duties as follows:

This position designs and maintains the local area networks (LANs), wide area network (WAN), and cloud service networks for the Chancellor’s Office. 

Duties include: 

-Support the local area network (LAN) route, switch, and wireless infrastructure, including installation and support of hardware, upgrades, and/or patches.

-Design, implement, monitor, and document network topologies to ensure optimal system performance and access in a 24/7/365 environment.

-Provide environmental design and layout criteria for network facilities, cabling infrastructure, equipment, and other devices.

-Develop technical requirements and test plans to evaluate vendor products, services, proposals, and bids.

-Develop and maintain regular plans to support vendor releases for network hardware, operating systems, and software.

-Ensure adequate network services, capacity, and availability (e.g., bandwidth, switch ports, cables, and connectivity).

-Design, develop, and maintain remote access and connectivity services (e.g., VPN).

-Develop and maintain documentation of current configurations, including the baseline templates and optimal configurations, and generate regular change reports.

-Monitor the daily back-up of network devices, run regular test restores, and ensure that newly installed devices are configured for back-up and disaster recovery.

-Develop, implement, and monitor network performance measures and reports and trouble-shoot performance problems.

-Provide technical support and guidance to end-users and stakeholders.

-Assist in developing, documenting, and implementing technical and operational policies and procedures that conform to the CSU Standard Operating Environment (SOE), industry standards, and best practices.

This position provides network security and firewall support for all local and remote Chancellor’s Office sites and cloud services

Duties include:

-Install, configure, and manage network firewall devices, security appliances, and maintain/document appropriate access procedures.

-Routinely perform security risk analyses to identify network vulnerabilities and generate intrusion prevention and detection reports.

-Recommend and implement counteractive security measures proactively and in response to security breaches and apply approved security patches.

-Recommend and implement counteractive security measures proactively and in response to incidents.

-Respond to incidents and security breaches, providing root cause analysis.

This position provides support for telephony, including IP phones and integrated communications. 

Duties include:

-Ensure network switch and router configurations support optimal VoIP performance.

-Install, maintain, and trouble-shoot the Cisco Unified Communications Manager and Cisco 4000 Series Integrated Services Routers.

-Install, maintain, and trouble-shoot the Cisco Unity Connection voicemail system, Cisco Unified Contact Center Express, and Cisco Unified Attendant Consoles.

-Develop and maintain deployment plans and documentation for the Cisco VoIP systems.

-Provide technical and end-user training and support for all phone systems.

This position provides support for DNS, load balancers, virtual infrastructure, and the storage area network (SAN).

Duties include:

-Manage and configure DNS and F5 BIG-IP load balancer systems.

-Manage and maintain virtual environments and technology, including VMWare ESXi, vSphere, iSCSI storage connectivity, virtual distributed switches, and NSX security.

-Identify, analyze, and resolve system problems.

This position is also responsible for any other duties as assigned, for keeping current in the industry, including technology changes, trends, and best practices, and addressing any concerns regarding technical operations with the appropriate supervisor. This position also provides frequent on-site support as operational needs require and coverage for “after-hours” on-call support.

Qualifications

This position requires:

-A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Telecommunications, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience is required.

-At least seven years of professional experience supporting heterogeneous, complex networks, and cloud services.

Technical Skills 

-Extensive expertise in LAN / WAN technologies including switching, routing, and internetworking of diverse operating systems.

-Proficiency with Internet and Windows protocols and standards including TCP/IP, ICMP, DNS, SMTP, DHCP, IMAP, POP3, WINS, CIFS.

-Experience with Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch and Aruba networking equipment, preferred.

-Comprehensive experience managing Palo Alto Networks or equivalent firewall devices and security appliances.

-Expertise in Voice-Over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) and Quality of Service (QoS).

-Proficiency with the installation, management and configuration of Cisco’s VoIP or comparable IP telephony implementation.

-Solid background designing and maintaining secured networks for local and remote access.

-Experience with network vulnerability scanning tools.

-Thorough understanding of back-up technologies and their implementation in the enterprise.

-Knowledge of Windows/Unix/Linux/Apple operating systems and their approach to network connectivity.

-Experience with telecommunications wiring and cabling.

-Knowledge of back-up and disaster recovery planning, practices, and procedures.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products and Visio.

Preferred Qualifications

– Networking certifications preferred.

– In-Depth experience with VMware ESX virtual infrastructure and NSX design and support, preferred.

-Experience configuring and maintaining Storage Area Networks (SAN), preferred.

-Concrete understanding of Windows security, including file system permissions, file sharing, event logging, and group policy, preferred.
