Job Role Summary

The Central Data Office (CDO) of ExxonMobil Data & Systems Architecture (EDSA) has an immediate opening for a full-time Data Architect. The Central Data Office has a mission of developing enterprise data sets in support of the corporation’s strategy to treat data as an asset. The data architect will work closely with subject-matter-experts (SMEs), data engineers, and developers to design enterprise data sets and consult with projects to ensure data architecture is aligned with enterprise data principles and standards. The position will be located in Spring, Texas, and will report to the supervisor of the Central Data Office architecture team.

Primary Job Functions
A CDO Data Architect will work towards building and / or providing knowledge in support of the overall Central Data Office mission and data strategy. To achieve these goals, the Data Architect will be required to analyze current state data architecture and conceive desired future state data architecture, and identify activities needed to close the gap to achieve the to-be state.

Some Examples Of These Activities / Deliverables Are

  • Conceptual and logical data models for enterprise data sets
  • Alignment with solution team/developers on hosting of data sets/physical design
  • Business glossaries (a central dictionary of standard common business vocabulary)
  • Strategies/approaches & principles for data management (including master/reference data and identification of key data domains, data governance framework)
  • Data architecture that supports the proper security/access, retention and classification
  • Consult with projects and ensure solutions are aligned with the overall CDO mission and enterprise data architecture principles, using established data architecture assessment methodologies
  • Partner and participate with business leads/data governance organizations to support business data goals and needs
  • Provide architectural leadership, guidance, consulting, mentoring, education and support to other architects, data professionals and projects
  • Provide input to communications and MOC plans to ensure enterprise data set adoption and sustainability

Job Requirements

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, engineering (computer, mechanical, chemical), system analysis or a related field
  • Recent experience developing reference data architecture, data modeling (conceptual, logical & physical), data profiling, data quality analysis, building business data glossary/data catalogs
  • Knowledge about implementing data governance and master/reference data management programs
  • Experience using SQL Server/Oracle SQL query language E/R Studio Data Architect modeling tool
  • Experience working with agile delivery teams
  • Effective planning, communication, and persuasion skills to drive the management of change needed for organizational adoption of produced guidance including supporting organizations
  • Well-practiced written & verbal communication skills familiarity with using SharePoint team sites to collaborate

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Oil and Gas Industry experience ideal
  • Experience with MDM tools such as Tibco EBX and glossary/catalog tools such as Collibra
  • Understanding of large data store technologies (Data Lakes, Data Warehouse, Data Hubs, etc.)
  • Knowledge of XML, JSON, Python understanding of API concepts and integration architecture
  • Knowledge of the TOGAF Framework and DAMA DMBoK v.2 is a plus
