Cyber Defense Monitoring Intern

We are seeking motivated and talented students who want to help us solve some of the most complex challenges in financial technology. Technology teams at CME write and maintain ultra low-latency electronic trading platforms, risk management systems, and front-end trading interfaces, all of which are central to CME’s business. We are focused on designing, building and deploying customer focused solutions with passion and precision. 

CME’s Technology Summer Internship program offers students opportunities to learn more about CME’s business, our role in the financial industry, and the types of technology that keep our markets running. Students will develop both their technical skills and expand their network with access to industry experts, while working alongside other talented and ambitious students with a passion for FinTech. 

The Global Information Security (GIS) Department is a critical component of the Technology Division and is focused on delivering a safe and secure environment for the operation of our markets. The Cyber Defense Monitoring (CDM) team sits within GIS and focuses on monitoring cyber attacks against CME Group. The CDM intern will work alongside the team helping to defend CME Group against cyber threats. They will be responsible for assisting with monitoring the network for anomalies, performing threat analysis, and helping to enhance threat detection capabilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a college/university degree in computer science, cybersecurity, or another related field
  • Proven, demonstrable experience or skills in cybersecurity via CTF, hacking platforms, school projects or home labs
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent listening and interpersonal skills.
  • Team-oriented with a desire to collaborate
  • Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Experience with Python, Google Chronicle, ArcSight, Splunk
  • Previous work with cloud services (GCP, AWS, Azure, etc.); identity toolsets such as LDAP, multi-factor authentication, and privileged identity management; network protocols
  • Work/internship experience in areas like digital forensics, incident response, security engineering, and/or cloud security
  • Experience with machine learning and/or statistical analysis methods
