In this job, you’ll be responsible for supporting NERC regulated infrastructure, including related components, and applications for Power System Controls (PSC) environment to ensure availability, reliability, and security. The infrastructure includes HP and Dell servers and workstations and other appliances’ hardware, virtualization & HCI technologies, and Windows and Linux OSes. The Specialist performs a variety of tasks, including (but not limited to) hardware and software evaluation, infrastructure monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance (i.e., OS/ Firmware/ Software installs/upgrades/patches), identity and access management, incident management, change management, problem management, and compliance.

A day in the life – Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright!

  • Install, configure, update/patch, and upgrade OS and infrastructure’s tools/applications.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot compute infrastructure (servers, workstations, and appliances) and infrastructure’s application issues.
  • Identify and implement actions plans to improve systems’ performance or prevent issues.
  • Perform user account administration, password, and access management (add/remove/change).
  • Coordinating activities involving clients, other IT teams, and vendors in the day-to-day operations and maintenance of our systems (including after-hours support).
  • Ensuring maintenance and support activities are in compliance with IT processes and adhere to our Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Create, review, and modify operational processes and procedures documentation.
  • Working with business clients and IT partners to maximize the value of the PSC managed applications.
  • Perform analysis, provide recommendations to other groups, using knowledge of infrastructure configuration and capability, application flows, and use of monitoring tools.
  • Ensuring maintenance and support activities are in compliance with NERC CIP, IT and Cyber security’s policies, standards, and process, and industry best practice.
  • Support compliance and audit activities.
  • Supporting mission critical applications, including after-hours and tier-2 support.
  • On-call duty for after-hours and weekends.


The essentials

  • Three (3) or more years maintaining and supporting enterprise hardware, software systems, and applications, including but not limited to Dell/HP servers hardware, Microsoft Windows OS (2008/ 2012/ 2016/ Win7/ Win10) and/or VMware, hardware/software/OS installation and break-fix, patch management, and configuration and release management.

The preferred

  • Experience working with NERC/CIP.
  • Experience identifying and evaluating risks and participating in mitigation efforts to maintain the high availability requirement of the applications.
  • Experience working with vendors and managing all escalated system issues to proper closure.
  • Effective, decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovation.
  • Experience with supporting Ovation, HMI, SEL, DFR, and SCADA systems/applications.
  • Strong scripting language skills including PowerShell.
  • Microsoft Systems Engineer (MCSE/ MCSA), VMWare (VCP/VCDX), and/or ITIL Foundation certifications.

  • This position’s work mode is On-site. The employee will report to an SCE facility or in the field location. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.

  • Able to travel throughout SCE’s service territory to perform maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Available for on-call duties including scheduled and unscheduled evening and weekend work.
  • Position will require up to 30% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory.
  • This position will require overnight stay during travel.
  • This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position – Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.


  • This position requires testing and applicants who are identified to continue through the selection process will be invited to test via email. Candidates who have previously passed these assessment(s), in some cases, may not need to retest again for this position.
