What You’ll Contribute

The Director of Corporate Security Investigations is a senior staff member on the Corporate Security team responsible for all phases of investigations and Reporting, Project Management, Vendor Management, Database Systems Administration, Policy Development, Risk Assessments, Strategic Planning, Training, and working with law enforcement agencies, Security Officers, Human Resource representatives, legal staff, and business line Vice Presidents throughout the organization. The Director of Corporate Security Investigations— provides a blend of technical, subject matter expertise and project management skills to help ensure the success of the department.

Areas of specific focus include: Managing and utilizing a case management system to document and analyze security incidents throughout the company. Database level Administration of case management system and Social media monitoring systems. Drafting investigative reports and summaries for Senior Management. Collecting and analyzing evidence. Identifying control weaknesses and methods to mitigate risks through the investigative process. Using forensic and intelligence gathering tools to gather evidence and perform risk assessments. Evaluating the need for a formal investigation on all incidents reported to the Corporate Security Division. Managing investigative resources efficiently and effectively. Developing and delivering training programs to employees throughout the organization, including new hires in orientation. Creating and maintaining working relationships with law enforcement agencies throughout the country at both the Federal and local level.

What You’ll Do

  • Conducting and managing corporate investigations
    • Ensures the proper workflow of all corporate investigations.
    • Prepares and reviews and distribute case reports.
    • Utilizes a case management system to track and monitor the progress of all investigations.
    • Maintains artifacts, case workflow, and chronology of cyber incident response cases.
    • Serves as an SME in the processing of criminal record checks in support of Background vetting.
    • Works with business line partners to identify and correct control weaknesses discovered through the investigative process.
  • Project Management
    • Leads projects, or delegates and supervises project leaders, for investigative initiatives, related Sallie Mae facilities and personnel
    • Works closely with key business areas to ensure investigative requirements are defined, documented, tested and delivered as part of project deliverables.
    • Independently develops detailed project plans and time estimates for investigative project initiatives.
    • Commits to and meet deadlines in both quality and time.
  • Strategic Planning
    • Assists the VP, Asset Protection in defining the appropriate technical requirements and strategies necessary to address investigative needs for the organization.
    • Formulates proposals and develops technical requirements for new products, services, applications and technologies.
    • Conducts research, monitors new product developments and makes recommendations regarding technologies which have the potential to benefit the Corporate Security Program for Sallie Mae, Inc.
    • Provides direction and guidance to staff, consultants, Vendors and support personnel for implementing new controls and technologies.
    • Personnel mentoring
    • Establishes project priorities and coordinates the implementation of deliverables.
  • Investigations/Systems Database Program Management
    • Performs complex analytical tasks to assess risks and determine strategies required to resolve issues, correct security problems or mitigate risk.
    • Assists in the preparation of budgets and forecasts for area of responsibility.
    • Administers all Investigative and physical security intelligence gathering systems for Corporate Security.
    • Administers the international travel safety program
    • Administers the insider threat program.
    • Develops training and security awareness programs.
    • Develops and maintains policies and procedures.
    • Responsible for all reporting and data and data analysis related to investigations.
    • Performs other duties and special projects as may be assigned.
    • Oversees the installation of server software
    • Creates accounts for all users
    • Provides system support and problem resolution
    • Schedules server maintenance
    • Establishes a disaster recovery protocol

What You Have

Minimum: Indicate minimum education, skills and experience required.

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 7+ years of progressive experience working as a corporate investigations executive or law enforcement officer
  • 7+ years staff management, experience is required. Must have experience developing and mentoring junior staff, conducting performance reviews and developing staff training programs.
  • 7+ years’ experience conducting risk assessments and/or risk analysis in an investigative environment. The ability to clearly document and present findings as well as improvement opportunities.
  • Must be have administrator experience with investigative technologies, such as video systems, case management software, social media monitoring platforms and forensic evidence collection equipment
  • Must understand security concepts, protocols, “industry best practices” and strategies.
  • Experience with industry regulatory requirements and working with internal and external audit staff is required
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with project and application development teams, management and clients is a must
  • Teamwork, organization and time management skills are critical.
  • Must be focused, energetic, meet commitments, and be willing to take ownership of assigned projects and cases.
  • Must have excellent judgment and integrity.
