Department Overview

The ITS department serves the users of the multiple Cerner/KIDS/HRIS applications that have been installed at all the Children’s service sites. The members of the PowerChart, Pharmacy, registration, orders, care coordination, radiology, D&RS, billing and scheduling teams work to provide 24-hour coverage for these patient-related applications. Other non-patient care systems include: PeopleSoft, Kronos, and Groupwise. They are involved in daily support and investigation into the future needs of our staff and patients. They investigate and test software, such as security access, and hardware, such as new wireless devices.

Position Summary

(This is a remote position for candidates residing in or relocating to Minnesota or Wisconsin. No agencies, please.)

The Senior Network Engineer will participate in the design, implementation and management of complex network infrastructures and ensure that they are secure, scalable, and perform optimally. This role necessitates working closely with various teams to troubleshoot network issues and create solutions that align with business objectives, while also providing system design and operational support for enterprise network systems. The engineer will be tasked with recommending and implementing continuous improvements in areas like security, reliability, and service efficiency, with a particular focus on automation, monitoring, and developing repeatable processes with comprehensive documentation. Additionally, the engineer will mentor the team, share advanced skills, troubleshoot across various IT and business services, and leverage root cause analysis for continuous improvement. Engaging in governance processes, such as project and change management, and participating in on-call activities are also required within this role.

Education:

  • BA/BS/MS or equivalent work experience, including 8+ years of network infrastructure experience.

Experience:

  • Experience working in Microsoft Office365 environment is required.
  • Experience working within a ServiceNow incident management (ticket) environment is desired.
  • Experience designing, implementing and supporting large-scale network solutions (Cisco Systems) is required.
  • Experience with cloud networking (Azure, AWS or Google Cloud) is desired.
  • Experience working with and supporting modern network security solutions (firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, cloud solutions) is required.
  • Experience working with Cisco’s SDA solutions and technology is preferred.
  • Experience with network segmentation design and implementation (Cisco ISE, Netskope, Guardacore) is desired.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages, like Python, scripting languages for network automation are desired.
  • Experience with DevOps tools like Ansible, Terraform, or similar is preferred.
  • Experience with modern infrastructure observability, logging, monitoring, tracing and DEX platforms is preferred.
  • Experience with disaster recovery architectures, high availability, redundant design, failover/failback processes and modern backup solutions is preferred.
  • Experience managing vendor relationships is desired.
  • Experience collaborating on procurement and contract negotiations is desired.
  • Cisco CCNP, CCIE, or equivalent certifications are desired.
  • Experience working in a Healthcare environment is desired.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong technical knowledge and understanding of network architecture and topology is required.
  • Strong technical knowledge and familiarity with network protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex network issues.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read blueprints and construction drawings.
  • Ability to present ideas in human-readable, audience appropriate language.
  • Strong technical documentation creation skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Willingness to work scheduled on-call hours as part of team rotation.
