The Database Administrator, under the direction of the Director of IT Applications will collaborate with our internal IT team to design, analyze, and maintain our various data platforms. The Database Administrator should be a forward-thinking professional who can bridge the operational, technical, and strategic challenges of managing diverse database systems between on-premises, hybrid, and cloud environments. They will lead the effort to standardize, streamline and modernize our data architecture. They will work to ensure all our databases and our data platforms comply with our security standards, policies, and risk guidance.

This role can be located in any of the firm’s U.S. offices and we will also consider fully remote.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide architectural roadmap for our data platform focusing on our current on-premises SQL database environment and recommend Azure SQL when needed.
  • Perform legacy SQL database migrations to latest or vendor recommended versions and deliver to on-premises or Azure datacenters.
  • Proactively monitor and alert application members when issues are encountered in SQL environments.
  • Provide expert level administration and support, along with physical database design, architecture and development for high-performing business applications and their associated databases, and analytics functions.
  • Troubleshoot complex queries and execution plans that are internally created as well as vendor supplied ensure performance targets are met.
  • Provide data infrastructure support to all IT teams to comply with risk and security remediations.
  • Audit both internally developed, and vendor supplied databases and associated SQL to ensure operational and performance targets are met.
  • Work with our data team, to optimize our data storage and help facilitate the data lake for the firm.
  • Provide automation and methods for proactive data storage management to prevent outages and secure our environment.
  • Create data extracts and data transfers as needed.
  • Operational support for patching, indexing and other associated maintenance for our data platforms.
  • Ensure proper access, integrity, availability, and performance of databases.
  • Work with vendors to implement new data platforms.
  • Develop and modify database objects such as stored procedures, triggers, views, and ad-hoc queries as part of project implementation.

Requirements:

  • Experience with and knowledge of cloud-based database tools and platforms (preferably Microsoft Azure SQL Database Architecture and related tools).
  • Knowledge of database clustering for high scalability.
  • Advanced skills in data automation, SQL Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO).
  • Experience integrating SQL Server and Power Bi Premium throughout the enterprise.
  • Experience working with Data Science and Data Operations teams to optimize data flows, ETL processes and reporting/analytics in a high-availability SQL Server capacity.
  • Proven problem-solving skills and the ability to applying critical thinking to performance issues with our data platforms.
  • Strong analytical skills which should include basic knowledge of software design and product development and management.
  • Database Virtualization Experience with Azure and VMware.
  • Ability to support new tools and technologies.
  • Skilled at foreseeing possible issues and proactively offering solutions.
  • Ability to train/share knowledge with various levels of technical understanding with engineers and developers within IT.
  • Available for 24/7 support when critical issues arise.
  • Self-starter, take charge, highly motivated, positive demeanor and able to juggle multiple assignments simultaneously.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years’ experience as a Database Administrator or comparable experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience with the legal vertical preferred.
