This role is located in our modern Nashville Metro Center office, located just minutes from downtown with easy interstate access and free parking.

Primary Function

The Systems Engineer will be responsible for the maintenance, configuration, backup, and the reliable operation of the A. O. Smith server and storage environment while also actively working to resolve problems and issues within the server, storage, or cloud environments. The Systems Engineer will also work proactively to highlight potential problems and devise processes and procedures to prevent downtime.

This role is eligible for a remote work schedule of up to two days remote work per week. New employees are eligible to apply after successfully completing their initial 90 days of employment and training.

Scope of Responsibility

  • Maintaining, troubleshooting, and securing Windows servers (Physical, Virtual, and cloud based), Storage, and Linux servers.
  • Supporting Active Directory, Domain Controllers, PowerShell scripting, DNS, DHCP, IIS, .NET, File/Print Servers, and Server Clustering technologies
  • Work with business and IT teams to build and support solutions that are secure
  • Work with internal security to continually enhance and improve our security posture

Responsibilities

  • Support A.O. Smith servers and perform advanced troubleshooting of software and hardware
  • Windows Server, ESX, and Linux patch management
  • Support and monitor the enterprise Active Directory environment, resolve issues, and identify improvement opportunities
  • Support and monitor A.O. Smith’s cloud footprint
  • Proactive system monitoring
  • Design and develop PowerShell scripts to automate management tasks
  • Develop and maintain system documentation
  • Perform regular capacity planning and usage trending
  • Perform regular system security reviews

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information systems, computer science, or related field, or equivalent experience and certifications
  • At least 5 years of Windows Server and Active Directory experience in an enterprise environment
  • Knowledge of IT security principles
  • Knowledge and experience troubleshooting mid-tier storage arrays with emphasis on EMC VNX and Unity, and Dell Compellent
  • Knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, PKI, DNS, and DFS
  • Thorough understanding of NTFS and share permissions, and creating server images
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills with server hardware and Windows Server
  • Experience automating tasks with PowerShell
  • Experience with patch management products
  • Experience supporting and configuring Cisco UCS
  • Knowledge of VMWare vSphere/ESXi
  • Experience with Cisco HyperFlex / Cisco UCX is preferred
  • AWS and Azure experience in an enterprise environment is preferred
