Carpenter Technology is looking for an experienced cloud application solution engineer to develop, implement, deploy, secure and/or manage public, private or hybrid clouds applications deployment and management to expedite its digital transformation.

You will be responsible for the entirety of the tactical implementation and operationalization of the cloud strategies across all aspects of digital data platform and the business though building and deploying cloud applications. Lead Cloud Application Solution Engineer

Primary responsibilities

  • Translate the cloud strategy and architecture into a highly available and secure technical implementation in accordance with best practices.
  • Design, develop and lead the implementation of On-Premise and Public Cloud solutions that include Windows, Exchange, Linux, Virtualization, Mobile, Storage, Amazon Web Services, and Microsoft Azure technologies.
  • Provide expertise in technology and develop plans to ensure new technology initiatives meet the organizations business objectives and are delivered on-time. Integrate new systems and upgrade existing systems to increase functionality to meet objectives and stay within version support life cycle timelines and to meet security or regulatory requirements.
  • Provide detailed knowledge transfer and documentation to the Production Operations Team on new system implementations and upgrades to allow them to maintain and manage these systems according to best practices.
  • Provide advanced level support for Infrastructure Technologies for both On-Premise and Cloud systems which include Windows, Exchange, Linux, Virtualization, Mobile, Storage, Amazon Web Services, and Microsoft Azure technologies. This include at times working with IT support and end users to resolve support incidents related to the technologies.
  • Consult with the business departments to determine their technology requirements and provide recommendations to meet their objectives that are compatible and integrated with the Association’s systems and align with the Enterprise strategies.
  • Continuously monitor and optimize the cloud implementation for technical and cost efficiencies.
  • Continuously support and collaborate with other teams and projects as needed.
  • Implement hybrid IT by integrating different cloud services with back-end, traditional data center services.
  • Migrate legacy applications to public cloud or hybrid cloud environment in a rehosting (lift and shift) approach or in a refactoring approach for efficiency, agility, and disaster recovery.
  • Develop and coordinate cloud architecture across a variety of disparate areas within the organization.
  • Collaborate with developers and owning the “Ops” part of DevOps to ensure that cloud-native workloads are deployed according to IT best practices for security, governance, identity and access management, and monitoring.
  • Lead the efforts to test system and technologies that could provide technology or cost benefits.
  • Analyze business processes associated with managing and supporting the systems infrastructure to improve efficiencies.
  • Validates existing solution architectures and makes recommendations for improvements.
  • Lead the development of prototypes and POC’s that may be required during capture process and or the early delivery stages, or in support of R&D efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulations, policies, and procedures.

Requirements & skills

  • Experience working with external or internal customers to implement large-scale solutions.
  • Understanding of emerging IoT and Mobile technologies and communications protocols.
  • Deep understanding of cloud computing technologies, business drivers, and emerging computing trends
  • Working knowledge with AGILE development, SCRUM and Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) with one or more of the following programming languages: PowerShell, Bash, .Net, .Net Core, Java, JSON, PHP, Perl, Python, Ruby on Rails is preferred
  • Required: Azure Architecture and design patterns, Domain driven architecture, Microservices architecture, Azure native application development, Azure Integration Services (Logic Apps, API Management, Service Bus & Event Grid) Azure SQL Database, Azure Web Jobs, MySQL, SQL Server, SQL Server IaaS, Azure Monitoring and application insights
  • Preferred: Azure Virtual Machines, Virtual Networks, ExpressRoute, Azure Active Directory, Azure Site Recovery, Azure Backup, Azure Storage, Networking and Security Solutions, ARM Templates, JSON scripting, Windows and/or Linux administration, Azure App Services, Orchestration, Kubernetes, and Containers (Docker)
  • Experience in one or more specific IoT / embedded / M2M industry (i.e. home automation, business automation, health, asset tracking, smart utilities, etc.)
  • Working knowledge with AGILE development, SCRUM and Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) with one or more of the following programming languages: PowerShell, Bash, .Net, .Net Core, Java, JSON, PHP, Perl, Python, Ruby on Rails is preferred
  • Understanding of how to build cloud application solutions (e.g. PaaS, Serverless, API Management) and building resilient, scalable multi-site architectures
  • Solid understanding of building scalable web applications using WebAPI, RESTful API design
  • Must have Experience in Design patterns, SOLID principles, coding standards, OOPS concepts
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Information Technology, Masters/PhD preferred
  • US citizen or green card holder (due to compliance requirements)
