The Security Manager provides U.S. based representation of corporate security and its workplace security programs to assigned region and businesses. This role serves as a subject matter expert supporting business partnerships, identifying security program opportunities, and solving for physical security gaps and security concerns. This is a regional role serving the South-Central Region, may work remotely from within Texas, and reports to the Director, U.S. Security Operations.

Candidates will collaborate with leadership and cross-functional teams to effectively plan for and implement physical security enhancements and other workplace security projects and initiatives. The candidate will build and maintain solid internal partnerships with key stakeholders to include Real Estate Services, Corporate Security Communications, Health & Safety, Human Capital/Employee Relations, LCRA (Compliance, Employment Law, and Litigation), and other various business segment partners as well as ensuring alignment across the UHG Corporate Security team. This individual will also be responsible for engagement with external security consultants/vendors, physical security integrators and other parties as needed.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Partner with business leadership to understand business operations and objectives, socialize Workplace Security Programs, and ensure business leaders are informed of Corporate Security resources, expertise, and guidance
  • Provide business leadership with security incident reporting metrics and actionable data and develop an understanding of business leadership perspective related to security opportunities
  • Facilitate the delivery of security solutions that meet the needs of the business through alignment with business leadership, engagement with Corporate Security program leads and subject matter experts
  • Champion physical securitysecurity awareness, and proactive security training initiatives by ensuring execution of strategy in collaboration with Corporate Security program leads and other internal stakeholders
  • Partner with Corporate Security program leads to ensure site-level application of enterprise policy, standards, and specifications
  • Establish a consistent workplace security program and security culture across assigned businesses within accountable region
  • Collaborate with Corporate Security Integration team to ensure effective and efficient security integration and transfer of relationship lead responsibilities for newly acquired and integrated businesses
  • Provide business leadership with interpretation of capital and operating expense impact related to onsite physical security enhancements, security awareness, and proactive security training
  • Provide business leadership with annual budgeting of security related costs, actively manage regional program within business-approved capital and operating expense forecasts
  • Manage relationships with third-party security vendors, oversee service agreements and performance management
  • Provide quality assurance of security programs through maintaining solid business leadership relationships, continuing to seek business perspectives, providing routine reporting of security incidents, identifying material trends, and introducing new and updated workplace security solutions
  • Effectively communicate project and key deliverable status updates to Corporate Security leadership
  • Effectively drive change and positive improvements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Business, Criminal Justice, Project Management, Facilities Management, etc.)
  • 5+ years of relevant security experience in the private and/or public sector to include security risk management, intelligence, threat management, law enforcement and/or military while specifically implementing workplace security programs
  • Experience managing workplace security operations and programs while aggregating business requests surrounding security enhancements and providing subject matter expertise and guidance
  • Experience collaborating with leadership and cross-functional teams to effectively plan for and implement physical security enhancements and other workplace security projects and initiatives
  • Experience implementing and cost-effectively managing physical security programs
  • Demonstrated knowledge in reporting and metrics development
  • Up to 25% domestic travel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Protection Professional (CPP) or willingness to obtain certification within 12-18 months of hire date
  • Experience in security operations within a large, matrixed organization
  • Experience in a high volume, multi-site, regional environment
  • Knowledge of security technology
  • Demonstrated skill to problem solve and collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully perform under high pressure and stressful situations
  • Advanced interpersonal and communication skills and ability to lead meetings with internal stakeholders and leaders
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively deal with moderate levels of ambiguity – can effectively cope with change, can shift gears comfortably, can decide and act without having the total picture, comfortably handles risk and uncertainty
