This is a remote position and can sit anywhere within the PNC footprint, except for Colorado, Hawaii, Alaska. There is limited expectation for regular in person, in office activities.

Within PNC, the Security Engineer role on the Emerging Technology and Product team is responsible for evaluating next-gen technology and identifying ways to adopt to help deliver best-in-class technologies for the Security Defense Office. The role will help analyze and select alternative products based on threatrisk, desirability, feasibility and viability. The Emerging Technology and Product team is the forward-looking arm of the Security Defense Office. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge in at least one of the following domains:

  • Zero-Trust Architecture & Components
  • Network Security Engineering
  • Security Operations Center (SOC) tools
  • Security Architecture

Essential Function

  • Participates in activities, processes, and utilizes tools needed to improve overall security posture of the organization.
  • Applies security concepts, reviews information, executes defined tasks, analyzes requirements, reviews logs, and creates documentation. Performs investigation and data loss prevention, data manipulation, and coordination of activities. Performs actions to address or mitigate risks and vulnerabilities. Reviews and defines controls.
  • Monitoring, researching and reporting on new & emerging technologies in cybersecurity.
  • Evaluating vendor products and new technologies.
  • Conducts security assessments and other information security routines consistently.

Job Description

Provides subject matter expertise when applying security concepts. Leverages technical knowledge and industry experience to design, build, and maintain technology solutions. Responsible for deliverables related to project timelines.
Responsible for working with architecture to take high level architectural designs and determine the specifics around implementation details (ex: sizing) integration details, onboarding and operationalization.
Evaluates patches, updates, and ongoing maintenance. Determines impacts to existing solutions when new standards are implemented. Utilizes change control and other governance processes to ensure alignment of solutions .
Develops detailed implementation, configuration, design, and engineering documentation. Build and implement solutions.
Works with operational partners to enable transition and day-to-day supportability.
Provides engineering support to existing technology in a production environment and collaborating with other groups as required. Seeks opportunities to grow a broad knowledge base to complement specific subject matter expertise.

Problem Solving – Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.

Technical Troubleshooting – Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques, and the ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical (hardware, software, application or operational) problems.

Work Experience

Roles at this level typically require a university / college degree, with 5+ years of industry-relevant experience. Specific certifications are often required. In lieu of a degree, a comparable combination of education and experience (including military service) may be considered.
