Job Description
We are looking for an enthusiastic software engineer that is familiar with Linux-based development. The role is to develop and maintain a manufacturing ecosystem used by our manufacturing partners to securely program, provision, and test Western Digital hardware.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, architect, and write efficient, secure, and reusable manufacturing code to be used by multiple evolving products and programs.
- Maintain manufacturing codebase, fix bugs, and improve performance for new and existing products.
- Generate and store manufacturing metrics and logs.
- Write clear, readable, and defensive code to allow easy and efficient team collaboration.
- Unit-test code for robustness and functionality, including edge cases, usability, and general reliability.
- Participate in code reviews to ensure high quality.
- Keep code documentation up to date, clear and concise.
- Provide input for development time and effort estimates.
- Comfortable working in a fast paced, highly collaborative, virtual work environment.
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering.
- 4-6 years of experience using C, Kotlin and/or Java.
- 4-6 years of experience in Linux-based development.
- Hands-on experience with an appliance-based development model such as Ubuntu Core.
- General computer networking technologies such as TCP stack, DNS, IP routing
- Hands-on experience with firewalls, VPNs and network isolation is an asset.
- Proven understanding of HID, I2C, SPI, and UART interfaces.
- General understanding of PC hardware design and assembly.
- General understanding of secure boot, digital signatures, and certificates is an asset.
- Proficient using source code control and automated build environments.
- Ability to read and understand datasheets, electrical diagrams, hardware specifications, and product requirements documents to assess impact on software design.
- Strong analytical, problem solving and creative thinking skills.
- Strong commitment to technical quality and proper documentation during all phases of development.
- Excellent communication skills; interact with suppliers, senior management and other team members professionally, in writing, in person, and virtually, as necessary.

Compensation & Benefits Details
- An employee’s pay position within the salary range may be based on several factors including but not limited to (1) relevant education; qualifications; certifications; and experience; (2) skills, ability, knowledge of the job; (3) performance, contribution and results; (4) geographic location; (5) shift; (6) internal and external equity; and (7) business and organizational needs.
- The salary range is what we believe to be the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in Colorado or remote jobs that can be performed in Colorado. This range may be modified in the future.
- You will also be eligible to participate in Western Digital’s Short-Term Incentive (STI) Plan and to receive equity awards under our annual Long-Term Incentive (LTI) program, which consists of restricted stock units (RSUs), pursuant to the terms of these programs. RSU awards are also available to eligible new hires, subject to Western Digital’s Standard Terms and Conditions for Restricted Stock Unit Awards.
